OVERVIEW

Norumbega, a 6-year-old graded stakes-winning son of Horse of the Year and two-time Breeders’ Cup Classic-G1 winner Tiznow, will stand at Bonita Farm in Darlington, Md., for the 2017 season.

One of six stakes performers for the stakes-placed A.P. Indy mare Meghan’s Joy, Norumbega won the Grade 2 Brooklyn Handicap and was second in the Discovery Handicap-G3 and Skip Away Stakes-G3 in a 19-start career in which he won or placed eight times while earning $521,645.

Trained by Claude R. “Shug” McGaughey for owner/breeder Stuart Janney III, Norumbega is a half-brother to millionaire Ironicus, a multiple graded winner of $1,148,615 who recently retired to stud at Claiborne Farm in Kentucky, graded winners Hunting and Quiet Harbor, stakes winner Seal Cove and graded stakes-placed Minister’s Joy. Another half-sister is the dam of graded winner and course record-setter Onus. The family traces back to Rokeby Farm’s blue hen mare Glowing Tribute through graded winner Wild Applause (by Northern Dancer).

Norumbega’s stud fee is $3,000 live foal.
